Don’t Tell Your Boss Sam Crowley Is Your Coach
Happy Father’s Day to all the Champion fathers!
I received an email from a coaching client today named Sarah. She is realizing exponential growth in her sales job and preparing herself for much, much more. She is challenging the stauts quo and immersing herself in personal development. The growth she has experienced since we began coaching just eight weeks ago has opened up her eyes to a whole new world.
Here is the problem.
Her boss is a career suit who has sold his soul to corporate America. All he knows is what his boss tells him. He goes to his job for 12 hours, does what he’s told and tries not to ruffle too many feathers along the way. Up until eight weeks ago, Sarah believed everything he told her. She believed that the more cold calls she made, the more contacts, the more sales and on and on. This was a pretty good approach thirty years ago, but went out of style right about when the Rubiks Cube lost its luster. I showed Sarah a whole new way to attract customers as well as develop herself to be more than just an order taker.
The key to the Everyday Is Saturday blureprint is making yourself more marketable. The more marketable you become, the more options you have - not only in your job but in life. Most employers would love to hear of a subordinate immersing themselves in personal development and expanding their horizons.
Here’s where it becomes a problem, at least in Sarah’s case. Her boss is becoming irrelavent. His stale approach to leadership is slowly being exposed. Co-workers are turning to Sarah for advice, asking how she is able to do more in less time. Her boss now feels threatened and a bit nervous that he may go the way of the dinosaur. Sarah explained she hired a coach. A guy who has forgotten more about sales than most will ever know. The good news for her is this same guy gave up his career to teach others how to live the life they love.
Good news for champions like Sarah. Bad news for bosses who don’t evolve. When the best selling book in America is titled “The four hour work week” you better jump on board the “more in less time train.” If you’re a leader of people, encourage them to seek more and immerse themselves in personal development. But don’t miss this one nugget - get on the train before your subordinate does or you’ll find yourself working the drive thru window at a local restaurant.
If you are currently employed and want to skyrocket your w-2, let’s connect. One thing you must understand is the number of people I coach who remain with their current employer is low. The reason is, once they understand just how marketable they are, their eyes are open to a whole new world. They discover the champion that lies beneath.
It’s o.k. to have a coach to help you achieve more, just don’t tell your boss your coach’s name. Once they find out it’s Sam Crowley, they’ll designate you as a flight risk. Champions enrolling in the Everyday Is Saturday coaching program want more. They want more so they can give more. Giving starts the receiving process and life takes on a whole new meaning. Sarah’s life will never be the same. The beauty is, her awesome, new attitude is infectious to the people she works with. Now they all want to make everyday Saturday. Pretty cool.
