Take Action Today And Move Closer To Success

I was on a coaching call recently when the client explained all of the personal development material she had read and all the CD’s she had listened to over the past few months. This was our first call where I try to find out all I can about the individual. Where are they right now? What is their plan? What are they doing to get there?

As I listened to all the material she had read I asked a very simple question. What action have you taken as a result of all the material you have read? You would have thought I asked how many miles is the sun from planet earth (93M miles by the way). She was speechless. Her answer was, “Well, I have been waiting for the right opportunity to come by and then I was going to….” Deadly. Preparation without action might as well be nothing at all. You have all the knowledge in your head but you are waiting for just the right moment to make your leap. I was at the cemetery last week visting my mother who died 10 years ago this week. As I walked through the cemetery I could almost hear a symphony playing from all the people who died with the music still inside them. How many of these champions were also waiting for just the right moment to take their shot?

You can have the nice cars, fancy houses and awesome titles that go with your name plate in your office. As for me, I am content knowing that I made a difference in the life of a child and let my music play while I was still alive. I explained this concept to the champion I was coaching and showed her exactly how she could implement this thought process immediately. I shared three testimonials from fellow coaching students whose lives have changed forever and their job is no longer a drag on them financially or emotionally.

One of the most important six letter words in the dictionary is a-c-t-i-o-n. You must take action or you will never move. It sounds simple and it is a very simple concept but most people just cannot get their arms around it for whatever reason. They talk about what they would do instead of what they actually did. Take a small step today towards your dream, then a little bigger step tomorrow. Eventually you’ll be running and leaving your past behind. Past relationships as well as events that have held you back for so long.
