Our Trip To Pumpkinville
I have no idea who invented the saying “the best things in life are free” but he/she must have spent alot of time chasing “stuff.” The same stuff we all chase until we realize you can never have it, nor is it going to satisfy your appetite even if you could. The best things in life are right in front of you if you just take the time to open your eyes and focus.
My brother Chris called the other day and suggested I take the family on a little road trip to Pumpkinville. The weather has been incredibly nice throughout September and this weekend was no different. We loaded the family into the Crowley Mobile and headed over to the land of pumpkins.
What a blast! If you want to see photos of the place Click Here
I won’t go into detail about all they have to offer, just imagine what kind of fun a family of five can have (three girls under age 6) in a place named Pumpkinville.
The admission is free and there’s a Kodak moment around every corner. Our girls were petting roosters and playing in pumpkin patches while having the time of their life. Fallen leaves cover the ground and the smell of the nearby cider mill was awesome.
It was another one of those days when you get that feeling of “…this is what it’s all about.” You’re not out $200 just to feed the family and keep the kids happy. There’s no buses, trams or any other craziness. You can come and go as you like and enjoy yourself in an area of the country that is tailor-made for this time of year.
We arrived home, ate dinner and I took the girls on a wagon ride up and down the street until our daughter Laura had a meltdown and forced the family inside for some intervention with her.
All told, we had 6+ hours of awesome family time on a picture perfect autumn day. No stress (outside of what you’d normally expect from three girls 6 & under), great family time, great memories. And it was free. We enjoyed the gifts God gave us: our health, family, leaves, pumpkins, animals and everything else that He gives us to use.
Yes it’s true, the best things in life are free.
