Success Is A Journey

Lots of people go through life asking the age old question “What is the key to success?” I can tell you first-hand that the key to being successful is not that difficult but most will not do it.

If you’re in a sales job that requires cold-calling for example, there are days you would rather sit thru a viewing of Ishtar 10 times than pick up the phone and start prospecting for sales. It’s not hard to pick up the phone, actually it’s very simple. But you know what else? It’s also simple NOT to do, and that is where most people do not realize success. How about exercise. It’s simple to get to the gym for 30 minutes and hop on the treadmill, but it’s just as easy NOT to.

Success is a journey. It is made up of thousands of little steps that culminate in you being able to achieve whatever it is you would like to do in life. There’s no “big bang” when it comes to success. Every success I have today is a reflection of something I did months or years ago. I’m speaking in Atlanta next month with Dr John Maxwell, Coach Ken Carter, Loral Langemeier and a host of others as a result of contacting John Di Lemme in 2004. I am kicking off Brian Rodgers 2008Figure Platinum Coaching Series as a result of hiring Scott Paton as my coach last May - Scott introduced me to Brian. I am speaking at Scott’s Podcasting Bootcamp in Vancouver, British Columbia in May because I took action and responded to an email Scott sent to his list a year ago.

You see, all of my recent success is a result of actions I took a long time ago. The mammoth success I will have in 2009 will be attributed to what I am doing today.

What are you doing today to ensure you have the same type of huge success in the next 6-12 months?

If it’s cold-calling you need to be doing right now - do it! If it’s journaling - do it! If it’s writing affirmations - do it! If you need to be attending Chamber Mixers or other networking events - do it!

Everything I just listed is very easy to do.  It’s also very easy not to do.

The good news is that success is predictable. If you do not take all of those small steps on your journey you will not have success period. I promise that if you start doing those things that are easy not to do, you will relaize a whole new success journey. One you will be feeling the residual effects of for many years to come.

You are a champion.
