Looking The Big 4-0 In The Face

I turn 40 in six days. Yes, that’s right- Sunday June 29th I exit my best decade yet - 30’s… and move into a whole new era. Hmm, not sure how to feel about this one. I’m not sitting in a corner depressed over being one year older. I’m just thinking about how I viewed everyone else I know who used to be 40. My mom. She had her 8th and final child at age 40. Care to take a guess who that was - that would be Samuel Pierce Crowley:) So I definitely thought my mom was old right? Aren’t all our parents old:)

In 1993 I traveled to NYC for a suprise 40th birthday party for my sister Kate. She is 15 yrs older than I am and at the time I was 25.  I didn’t necessarily view Kate as being old because she was so cool (for her age). I just thought that age 40 was kind of old.

I remember when I was first hired into my corporate career. The guy who interviewed me was celebrating his 40th birthday. I was 22 and thought “Damn dude, your old.”

Now that I’m staring 40 in the face, I honestly feel ten times better than when I turned 30. I run 8 miles a day, eat well, happily married, three healthy kids, thriving business. I guess I’m pretty fired up to see what lies ahead in my 40’s. I think your age is a direct reflection of how you view yourslef and how well you take care of your mind and body. That’s why I exercise both each day.

Maybe I’ll feel differently this Sunday but for now I’m fired up for 40!
