Count Your Blessings And Overcome Adversity

April 13, 2007, Category: Personal Development

How often do you think to yourself “I am lucky to have all that I have”?

It seems that today not many people think about how lucky they truly are. If anything most people live with regrets, fear, and they cling on to everything bad that has ever happened to them in the past. They do not see the home that they live in; they do not see the obstacles that they have overcome and most of all they do not see the love that is all around them. To sum it up, they do not count their blessings.

Do You Count Your Blessings?

Whether you are religious or not, how often do you count your blessings? How often do you think about all of the good things that have occurred within your life? If the answer is never then it is fairly certain that you are not living the happiest and the most successful life that you could be living.

In order to appreciate life, you need to appreciate every single thing that has happened within it. Life has its ups and downs and none of us can change them, but most importantly we shouldn’t spend our lives wanting to. No matter whether good things or bad things have happened to us, they all teach us something. If you burn your finger after you place it into a fire, it teaches you not to do it again. If you fall in love too quickly and you get your heart broken to the point where you cannot eat or sleep properly, it teaches you to protect yourself more within the future. So what may seem like a horrible and devastating experience at the time, if you allow it to it will teach you something that you can use to better yourself.

Counting your blessings may be hard to do when you are so used to looking on the negative side of life. However, with a little persistence, motivation and strength you can start to think a little more positively. Each time you feel a negative thought about the past or present enter your head, turn it into a positive one. Remind yourself of everything you have overcome in your life and that will in turn remind you that good things can and do happen. Being happy is harder than being miserable and whilst sometimes it is good to have a couple of bad days, you really should try and look on the bright side. After all, who wants to live an unhappy life packed full of regrets and bad memories?

You deserve to live a good life and you owe it to yourself to count your blessings. Tell the people that you love just how much you appreciate them and love them. Like yourself and appreciate the good things that you have achieved. By looking at the things which you have done right instead of wrong, it will help you to move on in life and generally be a happier person.

So, if you don’t count your blessings, why not start counting them today?
