Does Being Flexible Equate To Being Successful?

April 11, 2007, Category: Personal Development

Is something in life holding you back? Are you feeling old before your time and do you feel like it is too late to change your life? If so you are not alone but the good news is that you can change things for yourself.

Why Being Flexible May Be the Answer

Every single person will go through at least a handful of problems within their lifetime. Those problems will range in severity and each will provide a valuable lesson. However your problems will only provide you with a lesson if you choose to let them. If you simply ignore them or attempt to force a change too quickly, you will only be making things worse.

Whilst it is possible to change your fortune and overcome adversity, you do need to remember that sometimes change takes time. All problems resolve with time and effort but sometimes people try to override time and create the changes too fast.

For example, if you have been stuck in a rut for a long time and you have recently decided to do something about it that is great! However, if you are too overenthusiastic then you are likely to try and rush the change into your life. After all, you have waited so long and now you are ready to make the change! What you need to remember is that old habits die hard and whilst you may be ready for these changes, they may need time to adjust to you.

By being flexible and acknowledging that change takes time as well as effort, it should help you to make realistic goals for yourself. If you want to get a new job for example, you should not just hand in your notice and then hope for the best! It will take time. You need to prepare a resume, search for appropriate jobs and perhaps even learn new skills. Then there are interviews to attend and the process of hearing back – it takes time and if you have handed in your notice you could end up in a tricky financial position until you do find a new job; and that will give you a whole range of new problems! So be patient and do not try to rush things. As long as you are determined change will happen when the time is right.

Another thing that holds us back sometimes is the fact that we want everything and we want it straight away. Big changes cannot happen overnight and without any effort whatsoever. They require you to be flexible and to give an honest time scale and a lot of effort into things. For example if your dream is to own your own home, it is not something that you can afford to do straight away. You may not be able to get your dream home the first time around and you may have to settle for something smaller. If this is the case be flexible about it, do not lose your motivation just because you can’t have things your way straight away.

Overall the best things in life are worth working for and you will feel a greater sense of satisfaction knowing that you worked hard to get what you wanted in life. Just remember that as well as effort, it also takes time to fulfill your dreams and that you sometimes have to be flexible in order to achieve everything that you want to achieve.
