The Power Of Positivity

August 18, 2009, Category: Personal Development

It’s possible.
It really can happen.

I sat on a four hour plane ride from San Diego to Atlanta yesterday with a great guy. Wanna know why he was a great guy? Because he loved what he did for a living. His name is Adam and he works as a border patrol agent south of San Diego. He gets shot at more often than he would like and is always confiscating illegal drugs.
And he LOVES it!

He wishes he did not have to put on a bullet proof vest underneath his long-sleeved uniform but he does it with a smile. He doesn’t really mind dodging bullets that much but he worries about his one year old son. If not for him, he would not be as uptight when the lead comes flying his way.

An we are a better country because of Adam. Obviously he helps protect our borders but he also enjoys what he does. That’s the entire foundation of all our books, CD’s and other material is this: When you truly love what you do, you do it so much better than people who don’t- simple as that.

I thought I would never meet another person who was not their own boss, that loved their job. It wouldn’t be so bad if people just kept their feelings to themselves but they pollute the environment. They moan and groan for all to hear. The job gets done a fraction as well as it could if they were happy. Nobody is forcing them to stay where they are but you wouldn’t know it. They act as if nobody has ever left a job for greener pastures and was successful.

Adam left his $30K/yr job for twice as much money and 100% satisfaction as a border patrol agent.
We’re lucky to have him. The people he associates with are lucky X2 because they interact with him daily. He’s a shining light. I mean, I mean freaking blogging about the dude and he was only in my life for fours hours.

The power of positivity baby – love it!

Great post Sam. It really proves that there is an ideal job for everybody. The plan is certainly perfect but if we moan and groan about it then we do ourselves and the world a great disservice. Instead of complaining the best idea is to look at your life and have the courage to change what is not right.

    Love and hugs,

    Hi there Sam.

I needed to hear that there is a guy out there that loves doing something that most people wouldn’t want to do. (the bullet part) I’m the luckiest SOB on the face of the earth because I love to sing and I get to do it for a living. Lately I’ve kinda saturated my market and found myself singing to people who would rather be yelling above me downing their 5th shot of rum and complaining than listening. So my passion for singing took a hit.
When you asked in your “Seize Your Saturday Power” What business would I start if money wasn’t an issue.” I couldn’t answer. I was frozen in fear. I live on a tropical Island, I write songs, I sing 2 nights a week, I own a bike rental my life is by most peoples comparison… Outstanding! and yet there is a part of me that longs for something more… But I didn’t know what!
I was afraid to upset the mango cart and actually dream again… I found my answer with your help by asking different questions. I took the things I already knew I loved to do and asked… “what would you rather do? Lay on a beach, go snorkeling, hang in a hammock and read all day or… Open for a major label artist and sing for adoring fans? Hmmm… Sing.
I kept asking either or questions and found singing as my passion again. Next dream is to reach a large audience. lucky thing there is an internet that lets me do just that.
    Thanks again Sam

Dude Ive reached my tipping point. Im 24 yrs old and am on the track to a career most would consider respectable, at first glance for some they might say I have great job, and i know people that resent me for getting this position when I beat them out for it. I realize now that this isnt what I want. I was in a band for a while and that brought me joy, playing music with my friends, bandmates, and I was happy enthusiastic about where this would lead me, I believed that I would tour the world and I know when you believe in something like I believed in that, you have the power to achieve it. Then I started listening to all the mediocre minds, I started following what they were telling me I went for the management thing even though I knew in my heart It wasnt what I wanted to do. I applied the same passion into that as I did with the band, I focused on that and let the band fall by the wayside. But now Im just a prisoner in that job and I dont have the freedom or the passion that I used to. My saturday is to be on stage making music and to look out into the crowd and see all the people enjoying listening to my music as I enjoy making it.

I guess what Im here to say is that,

    IM IN….

this is all feel good stuff but exactly how do you propose to survive while you quit your job and do somehing that you love? I tried doing what I loved but couldn’t make a living at it. Everyone is saying quit your job and do what you love – are they willing to pay my bills until my ‘dream job’ takes off?

    Hi Olaf,

Your worry about making a living is nothing but a fear you need to handle. You were taken care of when you were 1 day old, i month old,1 yr old and i am sure will be taken care of now also if you can just focus sincerely and consistently on what you love to do, we need to discipline i even what we love to do.Sun shines equally on everyone but if i close my window and not ready to open up , i cant blame sun.

Happens with everyone. But if we decide to discipline ourself and be consistent in doing what we love, slowly everything falls in place. At least you will enjoy the days of whatever you are doing.

There is enough to meet every bodies needs.

Are we justifying our greeds on name of making a living ,are we sincere in following our passion?

Trying to convey something but seems not articulate enough to do it.

Hope you get the essence of message.Just begin and be disciplined even in following your passion.

    Thanks,
    Manu
