A few days ago I recorded a cute little video with my two borders collies Lucy & Ginger.
The video was a fun little attempt to show how one dog is a leader and the other a follower.
One problem: When I watched the video later, I wanted to crawl into their dog cage with them and never come out.
Holy Milk Bones!
The guy in the video was severely overweight and something had to be done right then and there - no waiting.

Hey Sam,
You're not fat! I'm fat! I'm 2" shorter than you, and I weighed 210!!!
Mind you, I'm down to 186 now, hee hee!
@ Julie,
Thanks for the info on raw food, etc.
I haven;t veered off the traditional diet path in the past but will give it a try.
Any dietitians want to offer their advice to supplement our workouts?
Try an Herbalife Nutrition Program!!! I lost 40 pounds in 3 months!!! Good Luck!!!
January 17th? Sounds like a New Years Resolution.
Go for it!
I'll join you on this!
I'm about your height and previous weight. I want to be there for my family. I presently take medication for blood sugar and BP. I have a goal to get completely off them! My goal is to get down to at least 190 and in the future 170. I'm with youy Sam! Let's boogy!
Hey Sam -- I work in video professionally, and any time we do a shoot with someone who's new at being on camera, we always warn them that "the camera adds 10 pounds"; meaning, the conversion from your 3D appearance (in person) to your 2D appearance (on-screen) can make you look heavier than you actually are.
But that said, getting in shape and staying that way is always a good thing!
I'm with you down 30 by Jan 15
Great comments....let's do this together!
I'm off to the gym, back in 2 hrs to check more of the awesome comments
Fired up!
Sam
I'm in! I love your videos Sam
)
Hi Sam!
I'm still down even to know i've been trying myself to lose the weight the doctor told me to lose but then losing weight i very easy, and getting it back way easier only people sometimes forget to mention you get back double the weight the lost before so that SUCKS!
Bart
sam,
you are not fat. SILLY GOOSE. Dont get caught up in all that stuff. If you eat alot of fresh fruit and veggies stay away from sugar as much as possible all is better.
Jeanne :0)
Sam. You and I are in the same boat. Almost identically. I hit a high of 207. Now down to 196. Still have the fat cheeks and stomach. I too will get to 175. If I am really inspired hopefully to 170. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hi Sam, Its great that you have decided to get healthy, but, I can't believe you are promoting the use of bottled water! Please check the internet about how hugely wasteful this is with filtered water bottles available. There is a great website for getting healthy so check out, Marksdailyapple.com. He has exercises and recipe books that are free to down load and are really great.
wow sam! that was some motivational video! i never do get round to watching one of these completely...well...until this one!:)
i don't think u look fat...but then people always tell me i am not fat yet i feel like i am! The weight machine disagrees with me most of the time........Maybe its more about weight re-distribution....not quite sure....
i'll join u in on this! 30 pounds to loose and approx 2months! ooh yes! all fired up!
lots of great news by lots of happy satisfied people on January 15th hopefully! fingers crossed and start eating healthy and moving more!:D
Awesome video Sam! I lost 54 pounds after my pregnancy in 8 months. I am actually less than my pre-pregnancy weight! I just walked or ran or did P90X everyday and ate vegetarian during the week. On the weekends, I eat meat. Simple, easy, and it works.
I am with you Sam to be healthy! Thanks for the post!
Christalmighty Sam! You have dipped into my "hobby" after hearing all about laundry without detergent and the advent of my business here in eastern Europe....but pal, the food there played a HUGE role in my decision to originally leave the buckeye! I've got your back, buddy!!! First of all, starving is NOT the answer. Take it from a woman your age who weighs 4 pounds less now than she did when I got pregnant with my 21 year old son! Not going to play coy.....at 5'9" I am weighing in at 136 (62 kilos is not exactly fat on a 176 cm frame). For starters, go to my blog at http://organicrecipescollection.blogspot.com/ and join my boy and a couple of my friends. I can use a larger following!
Next, for the sake of your girls and the Mrs., get SERIOUS about reading labels! All calories are not created equal, diet and fat-free anything is an invitation to pack on the pounds while you consume a ton of inedible crap, and if you are going hungry, you risk sending yourself into ketosis.....before being crabby and feeling crap to get down to what you aim for, only to see it pack back on after! Your diet should never be subjected to going on a diet. It should be a plan for energy, optimal weight, and good health for forever! I am not saying this is going to be easy, but starvation and countless hours at the gym when you can be having fun with your girls and the dogs does not figure into the plan!
I'll email you my skype ID again. Skype me. Yes we are friends, and I am not just the fair-weather variety. I'll help you get down to where you aim to be.
~Val
Dude, you don't look fat at all. The camera adds 10 pounds!! Well...OK maybe you are a little overweight.
Taking action...Check out my artwork. "LIKE" me on Facebook!!
Don't be fat, Sam! Don't be fat! No seriously. You may be a little overweight, but you know what to do. Hit the cardio, man! Grill the abs, toast the fat. Toast that fat!
Yes I can Sam!!!
Dude! I spent 3 bucks on an aluminum bottle. All stores don't mind that I come in and fill the bottle.
Please don't waste so much plastic(I'm talking from experience here)
Hi Sam well I already beat you to it.
Last year I hit rock bottom and had to do something. I'm happy to report I lost 88 lbs and I'm keeping it off.
I found my passion helping others do the same with this program. http://www.nataliejo.tsfl.com I coach for FREE and offer discounts on food.
I'm happy to see we are both the same journey.
I'm paying it forward to help all I can.
NatalieJo
Hey Sam, what the???? Didn't email to say you looked fat because didn't think you did! Having said that it's all about how you see yourself not me, so go for it. Ain't nothing wrong with you in my eyes!
You look better than i do.
Didn't tell you because you already knew but didn't
want to know. Video clips, photos, and mirrors are
good for keeping us on track. So is awareness of
how tight our waistbands are.
Having said that, it is also time for me, says my
mirror together with my waistband.
Thanks!
Love the video and very inspired to join you. So I'm committed to joining you starting right now. I'm going to do whatever it takes to stick with this and lose weight. Jan. 15 here I come. ^^
Great video, Sam! A shock is what wil usually trigger us to actualy do something isn't it. I know I need to lose some weight, and now I'm scared to make my video for my members! Best do an audio till I get off the few kilos ...
Thanks for the little extra push, I'm with you, eat less, move more!
Cheers
Viv
I'm here with you. Boy I know what it feels like. LOL
Hey, Sam...this is awesome...I have been trying to get motivated to try to work out to loose weight again and I have been struggling...I want to loose 50lbs, I am a mother of 2, a wife and have a full time job...So January 15th here I come...:D best of luck with your progress...
Hey, Sam. I'm with ya! I'm at about 220 and my goal is 190 within the next 60 days... I know I am able to do it 'cause I've done it before. But I've been in Italy where the food was just TOO GOOD. So, I'm on my way back home and already psych'd to go for it!
Hey Sam... must be something in the air I started eating a healthier diet on Monday as I realised that I needed to be able to move, breath, sleep better to be able to function in the new business I am starting. I feeling heaps better just by eating healthier food. I gave up weighing myself years but am a size 26 and my goal is to be at least a size 18 by July 2011. School reunion here I come.. so I will commit to be at least a size 22 by 15th Jan 2011.... thanks for the motiviation..
I'm with you Sam lol---really, I'm in the same position, I hate walking past a mirror.
Rock on Lorra!
That's a great challenge Sam. But you've got to do it right! I'm a holistic personal trainer dealing with not just the physical, but also the emotional and mental aspects of weight loss. Lots of water is essential, but eating is also essential if you don't want your metabolism to shut down and then you've got a battle for the rest of your life. You've got to eat more, but of the right foods. Anyway, if you want help with this Sam, let me know cause I am passionate about helping others lose weight the right way. In fact I wrote a book about it.
Hey Sam - How about quitting the plastic bottles - otherwise very inspiring. Thanks - I'm quitting the extra fat.
Hey Laurel,
Yes, I've already been chastised more than once about the water bottles. Will eliminate them from the routine:)
Hi Sam, I'am with you too! Let's see how much weight we all can lose by January 15. It is really amazing how it can creep up on you (the fat) you are so right. It affects your whole life, My jeans don't fit. There was this man who owned this Italian Restaurant down the street from me, he was persian I asked him what religion he was he said I am a Sooni I had never heard of that, but what he said next really made sense,
Think good, look good, be good, do good. You don't need to know anything else is what he said. Okay! I replied. At any given time we are learning from someone or are teaching them something. We need to practice what we preach. We know these things we just need to be reminded.
Thanks Sam,
You and me both to lose a little weight . I'm with you all the way...

OK Sam, You're on! I also need to lose about 10 pounds. Good luck to us all!
Sorry Sam -
You lost me with the fat story. I am not particularly interested in losing or gaining fat.
That is not fat! You should see me. Or my sister!!!!
Sam
I am my perfect weight since 3 months after my 2nd son was born (he's14 now) 106-108 and I am 5'8". You can be your perfect weight when you choose what that is and looks like for you.
The rest of it is when you are focused on that not on losing weight, you will start to make better decision,
FAST FOOD when you are traveling, NO more, bring your own snacks (healthy).
Think Stairs not elevator, you see you'll be fine...
Best Wishes

I am with you Sam! I have so far gone from 207 to 198. To our success!
Hey Sam,
I knew I was overweight, but after having some professional photos taken I realized how large I had gotten. I actually pulled out a piece of exercise equipment out of storage 2 states away to get in shape now instead of when we move (whenever that ma happen!). I'm in.
Jerry
If you are fat. I better crawl into bed and hide under the pillow till I die.
Viv if you see this DON'T wait to do your video! i don't know you, but whatever you have to say will be FAR more important than what you (think you) look like on a video. I'm sure you have heaps of value for people, so don't use it as an excuse not to do it! I just saw your website. People NEED your info.
thats not fat. i am 5-10 and 290. in fifth grade they wouldn't let me on the football team.i might hurt these lightweights. too bad for them. i'm staying right where i'm at! thanks anyway.
Hey Sam thanks for the video. Keep your sense of humor and you will do great. Here's the advice I've gotten lately... "to successfully lose weight and keep it off don't diet. The successful people made a lifestyle change. Change your thinking about food and you can change your behavior (eating habits). Raw foods are the best. Cook meats in the oven on a broiler pan with water in the bottom so the fat from the meat drains off. A bagel is not one serving of bread.. it is actually 4 servings, and those muffins.. they are 4 servings as well. Everything is made bigger now. The apples that we eat are 2-3 servings - not just one. If you can hold it in your hand and touch thumb to finger then it is considered one serving for you. Do cardio and aerobics... for 30 mins each day with the proper exercises for your age group at least 3 times a week. Get your heart rate up and sweat... sweating is good for you. No sugary drinks and nothing processed - especially with sugar. If the food has natural sugar already in it then limit the amounts you eat. and the biggie... if you can't pronounce the ingredients... don't eat it."
At 44 I'm taking a "Lifetime Wellness" class with 18-24 year olds. I need the class to graduate from the university. And I need to lose about 40 lbs myself. So... I'm in too Sam.
Good Luck EVERYONE! We can do this!!!
Hi Sam,
I don't think you are fat. Stilghtly heavier than normal maybe. For your size you aren't bad. But, any weight over the "ideal" weight we set for ourselves makes us fat. Personally, I am obese. My BMI is 40.4 and my waist size is 44.5 inches. I'm 5'5" tall. My goal is to bring my BMI down to 28. Then, if I am still not "happy" with how I am, I will bring it down to 22. But, in the meantime, I am working hard at losing this NEGATIVE force around me.
Sam.... I am WITH YOU on your journey to a better you.
I'm here with you.
Hi Sam,
I am 6' and have been 135-145 for years until they cut me open about 4 0r 5 years ago and again a year later. Ithink it was last year I went to the Dr, and it showed I was all the way up to 157 lbs.
Could be why my button hole and button hasn't been real easy to connect for a while. May be the icecream and peanutbutter and jelly sandwitches. Good luck on gettin down to where you want to be.
James
Yo, Sam!
One thing you taught me that worked like gangbusters is:
"No bread, no pasta, no sugar"
I did that for a couple of weeks and easily dropped 10 lbs. Then, just as you experienced while travelling - a few weeks of unhealthy eating and, boom, the weight goes back on.
So, yes, I'm with you on this new regimen!
And, really, it's not difficult at all. You just have to KEEP DOING IT. (lather, rinse, repeat)
Dana Ross Martin
I'm in Sam! I am 6'2" and my weight has not changed much, but I'm freaking fat! The reason my weight has not changed and I've become FAT is because in the past 2 years I have gone from very active to sitting in front of this laptop 12 to 16 hours a day. All my muscle has turned to fat and it's ALL out front! So, I'm at 210 lbs. and I have been wanting to start working out, I've started drinking more water also, it's a great thing to do and you're body will love you for it! Anyway, I'm in and I'm a Champion!
You are not fat. OK, so you want to be trimmer, fine, More fit, fantastic. Now I am really overweight. I would say right around 65lbs overweight. So I am releasing weight, joined the gym, working out. I started last Friday, the 12th. I am definitely moving toward being sizzling, hot, trim and fit!
So I am with you Sam.
Fat, Thin, Hey I have been both .
I am thin now , as in thin thin and one thing I know about this as that it is easyer to lose weight than to gain it.
doesn't matter what I eat.
Heywhat does it matter as long as your health and well being is not compromised.Sam I think you are perfect Yep I am your friend how coul you doubt me ?.
If I could go back in time , I would choose a nicely rounded man every time, its too late now at 77 years of course but who wants a man that hogs the mirror anyway.
Sitting in front of the computer has not alterewd me from thin and guess what I hate water.
I do not eat unless I am hungry so ther is no set times for meals.
I cook for all three of us, My Daughter, very much overweight and my Grandaughter , absolutely perfect, and me definitely under weight but hey whose looking anyway.
Besides, you die if you worry, you die if you don't so why worry.
Shirley V.
Good stuff on weight loss, i have been working like crazy too and not been concentrating on my physique for a while, but back on track and helping many to do the same, it is awesome to be in great shape, to have the energy, have every one check u out, and just look at your self in mirror it self is great,
I have trick that i tell every one when they have a hectic day and come home late, feeling over exhausted and too tired to even sleep, just take off ur clothes, except ur underwear, and grab two dumbbells (preferably heavy ones) and walk around without doing any reps, just that it self is enough to want you to do some reps before u take a shower
if you have kids, it is good to do this in the bath room
THANKS SAM IAM GOING TO QUIT BEING OVERWEIGHT AND START EXERCISING AGAIN TO REGAIN MY HEALTH
@ Adrian,
You Go!
It's all about the process and the person you become along the way.
Yo Sam, I ain't no fatty but keep up the great work nevertheless =)
Hugs
Oh Dear Sam,
Of course you're not FAT! You are just 'bursting' with 'Goodness'!! Am always with you but currently away from a comp. Will continue to watch, post comments more regularly.
God Bless You, You Dear Boy!
I am on board totally! Just a few tried n tested tips if anyone's intertested: Follow / precede each meal with a spoon of Psyllium husk as it soaks up the fatty content from whatever you have eaten before it is absorbed. A gap of 4 hours 'tween meals works really well too - and that means no fruit or snacks either. I remember halving each portion that I served myself while I was on a diet that helped me shed 15 pounds in 3 weeks. We tend to serve, order or buy much more than we need and continue eating even after we are satiated. See you 15/01
@Smita,
Good advice on the gap between meals. Yesterday I did all cardio and had the worst stomach pains.
I think I need to eat much less before cardio days. Just guessing on that.
Anyone know for sure?
HI Sam...Just went through the same thing..I had done a Performance Art Camp for teens and kids this summer and I was on the DVD speaking...Oh my gosh...i just saw it...I'm in right at this moment....Thanks for the Wake up call and yes we can do it.....
This is a good thing to do. Being excited at the beginning is a good feeling, but don't get burned out, slow down. I don't have a weight problem, but was called "piggly-wiggly" as a child. I eat 4 smal meals a day, exercise, do a lot of yard work and even housework it a good workout. Use common sense on the amount of intake and what goes in your mouth. This is really NOT rocket science, it's an everday lifestyle. All the best on your journey to the you that you know you are!
@ Loralyn,
Not rocket science at all - so why don't more people do what they already know is the best thing for them?
Hmm...
hi sam i'm with ya mags
x
let´s quit what doesn´t work. But Now. enogh it´s enogh... Thank you Sam.
@ Susana
Being a quitter never looked so good...
Sam, I too am too fat. Fifteen pounds too fat. Count me in.
Thanks for the push.
I'm in, need to reduce by 20kg (not sure how many pounds that is) and I need a push, so thanks Sam, I'm in, I'm in, I'm in...
I think you are not fat. As long you are happy and healthy that's good enough. However if that's your goal, I applaud you for bravery and courage. All the best. Drink chinese oolong tea or green tea is good for slimming & visualise.
Sorry, for someone who is 50 pounds overweight, I find this almost offensive. You are not disgustingly fat. And, while I know that I can lose, if I quit the habits that contribute, as a nearly 60 woman, I am not going to lose weight at the same rate as a young 6'1" guy.
good luck sam
I'm with you Sam, and agree fully with move more eat less....and its amazing how great you feel....I'm with you Sam...See you Jan 15
Move more, eat less. I got it and am slowly working that way. I just quit smoking (8 weeks already) but I've put on 9 pounds. Not so good. My general practitioner believed that the pounds would come off, too. Trying to think positive.
Sam, very likely this will be the most honest answer someone here will give you, and I really hope you read this: you should quit calling yourself (disgustingly) fat! And quit burning yourself down completely!!!! ;-((
I am shocked, honestly, and it takes alot to shock me, because you take the roll of being an example for so many people, also young women and men who think they are too fat which is most of the time NOT the case, people starving themselves already too much as it is;-((
To all reading this: QUIT CALLING YOURSELF NAMES and QUIT BURNING YOURSELF DOWN!! Your health will be in much better shape once you accept yourself as you are, as the perfect being you are;-)
The sun and the moon, the animals, the plants are all perfect, except for you??? What utter nonsense this is.
Do yourself a favour, all of you, read Noah St. John's book, the secret code of success, about selfesteem and loving mirrors;-)
And when you do want to take a healthy diet, find yourself a herbalife coach and eat the products! Good stuff, only vitamins, it also helps to clean your body and helps to heal it faster;-)
Hoping to seeing you quitting these kind of negative videos. And quit suggesting i am not your friend. It pisses me off in fact...
Your friend, sincerely, Erika
Okay, Sam, you're on!! I weighed 126 when I got married 34 years ago, at 5' 7", now I won't even discuss my over-poundage. So I will join you and won't stop till I'm there. Looking for the skinny me!!!!
Your philosophy is unique! I simply found it brilliant...
Sam,
Great that you are getting on the band wagon before it gets out of control. Love your enthusiasm and excitement to achieve your goal. I'm right there joining up with you.
Thanks for your inspiration.
Good advice below. Good luck Sam!
"If someone is working out and not losing weight, or not losing as much as they want—or if they’re actually gaining weight—the first place to look is the type and amount of exercise."
"Weight loss boils down to burning more calories than you normally use in a day. Cardio exercise burns more calories than muscle-toning or the average resistance-training workout. So dialing down the stretching and core work to just once or twice a week, and replacing it with more cardio should produce more weight loss. And the more minutes the better when it comes to weight loss: An hour to 90 minutes of aerobic activity per day on most days of the week will affect body weight."
"Some people get overly obsessed about numbers on the scale. If you are happy with the way you look and feel, and you feel like you are improving your fitness and strength, then continue doing what you are doing. Exercise works, and every minute of movement helps your health in some way. Weight loss through working out may be slower than you want, but it’s likely to be longer term solution and a healthier way to trim down and shape up, or at the very least to stave off weight gain over the years."
You are Awesome Sam! I'm gonna get back to workinout everyday, even if it's just a few pushups--exciting!
And cooking more often(!) :p
I myself was 12.7 stones Aug 2010 . I was not happy how I had become and took action to do something about it.

test
Hi Sam. You are not fat. You are overweight by some pounds!!!!!!!!! So keep coming back to your traning. I train about 5-8 times per week. I use P90X from Tony Horton and TRX Suspension Traning. I swim, ski and skate. I am 53 years old, weigh 83 kilos and are 1,79 height.
I, too started life style change 4 days ago and also lost 6 pounds. I want to lose another 16 pounds...to be total of 22 lbs and then mantain that weight. I am eating about a third of what I was and exercising with free weights. Even had a Thanksgiving meal early and lost, as I ate portion size. When my hubby has a dessert I take one bite of his dessert. Breakfast I have maybe a banana, toast, coffee or tea. Main meal is fish and asparagus, or small sandwich, or best of all Subways veggie sandwich...love there breakfast too.
Way to go Virginia!
The most difficult part of the journey is the initial momentum you need to create. Keep it going
Sam,
You were not that bad!
But I hear you though, if you feel like a balloon and suffer shortness of breath, those are warning signs.
You desperately need to read Wade T. Lightheart's book:
Optimum Vitality
Sam you need to:

It's the best way to detox!
Sam, you gotta check these sites out!
You must set the example for all your fellow American friends

Sam, Great vid and exactly what I've been thinking about. (no such thing as coinicidence). So, I've decided to do a video series on my weight loss. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving 2010, and I will start my workout and eating program in the morning. I know TG is probably not the best day to start, but when is now a good time to start? I've thought about a plan and basically it is to eat 5 times a day half portions (about 1500 cal/day) and work out 3 times a week (weights, cardio, and yoga). Taking a short video every day should be motivating. My goal is to lose 60 lbs in 90 days! I know it sounds tough, but I've done the math. I now weigh 310 lbs with a lean body weight of 220 lbs (thats 29% body fat!), so at 250 lbs I'd be at 12% body fat by 2/22/2011. Time to get busy.
Hey Sam offcourse m with You!!!!
thanks for the motivation and inspiration. am with you all the way....
I'm with you Sam. I need to lose some too.
